Crumbling Rock Caverns (Campsite)

 This cave is caver owned! It’s located minutes from the Camp and will be open to caving all weekend. A 13 ft climb down to walking passage that leads to a few muddy crawls and several areas with swimming and beautiful formations. This is a challenging cave and you better bring a change of clothes. A shower is located on the property to clean-up after a trip.

Florida maybe known for being a warm place, but it’s a constant heat for much of the year, hence the reputation. Most folks don’t know that Florida isn’t all that hot, even in Summer. Sure it’s humid and sticky but the ocean breezes keep us little cooler.

 

Heat Waves often associated with northern states don’t really occur here. Don’t be surprised if you leave home to get down to Central Florida and think it’s actually cooler than at home. Florida is just plain old regular hot, nothing special, and that’s the way we like it for our year round swimming activities.

When:

August 8th - 10th (Fri, Sat, Sun)

Camp Opens @ 2:00pm on Friday and remains open until Sunday afternoon.

Floral City, Florida

Cost:

There is no cost to camp, but a donation to the Karst Conservancy will be accepted.

 

Food:

Meals will not be provided; however, two restaurants are located within a few miles of the site.

 

Caves:

In addition to Crumbling Rock, several caves including Jennings Cave, White Cliff Cave, Catacombs Cave, and Ocala Caverns are located within 30 to 60 miles. A bit farther to the north, Devil’s Den offers a beautiful flashlight cavern snorkel or dive.

 

 

For those planning to arrive the weekend prior to the NSS convention, a few local cavers have planned a pre-convention camp to be held in Floral City, Florida.

 

The site, located at Crumbling Rock Cave, will have a primitive shower, porta-johns, and shaded camping.

 

The property does have limited sites, so please try to reserve a spot soon !!

 

Registration will be capped at 24.

 

Overflow camping is available at Tillis Hill located in the Withlacoochee State Forest about 8 miles to the west of the Floral City location.
